Boca Raton, FL (January 11, 2010) –To get things “off and running”, a cross-section of more than 60 business leaders, board members and committee members attended a reception hosted by Taverna Kyma as the second in a series of pre-event fundraisers for The Haven’s upcoming “Day at the Races” event organized by Co-Chairs Lynda Levitsky and Marge Vukovich with support from Honorary Co-Chairs Lisa and Derek Vander Ploeg. The reception included lively Greek music, belly dancers and an elaborate spread of delectable Greek specialties generously donated by Taverna Kyma.
The second annual Haven “Day at the Races” event is scheduled for Sunday, April 11, 2009 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, which combines great food and socializing, a great cause and live horse racing fun for all. Held at the beginning of the Kentucky Derby season, the event brings “Derby Chic” (ladies Derby hats and more) to South Florida and draws supporters from Palm Beach to Miami. Proceeds will support programs for foster youth ages 9-17 who reside at The Haven. For more information, visit www.haven4kids.org for more details.
About The Haven
The Haven, founded in 1976, is a group home for adolescent boys, ages 9-17, who have been removed from abusive and neglectful homes and placed in protective care by the state of Florida. From its five-acre campus in Boca Raton, The Haven provides programs designed to foster the development of each young man’s self-esteem and independence. In a safe, loving and stable environment, the young men are taught the skills necessary for them to become self-sufficient and proud adults. The Haven, a 501(c)(3), is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA), and recently received its fifth-consecutive four-star rating from Charity Navigator, a national charity watchdog group.
