  • FATTITUDE: A Body Positive Documentary Screening and

Q&A with Filmmaker Lindsey Averill

Presented by the South Florida chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp) in collaboration with Boca Raton’s Promise.

 

Fattitude examines how popular culture perpetuates the fat hatred and fat-shaming that results in a very real cultural bias and a civil rights issue for people who are living in fat bodies. It is the brainchild of filmmakers Lindsey Averill and Viridiana Lieberman with the goal to change the national conversation about body image so that it focuses not only on issues of self-acceptance but also on legitimate questions of systemic cultural prejudice. The film features a diverse variety of voices such as academic scholars, activists, Hollywood types (directors, writers and actors) and psychologists – including the likes of Ricki Lake, Rebecca Phul, Jackson Katz, Marilyn Wann, Sonya Renee Taylor, Virgie Tovar, Jen Posner, Lindy West, Winnie Holzman, Guy Branum, Tess Holliday, Andrew Walen and others.

Altar EGO is a one-woman powerhouse show brimming with signature wit, humor and zest for life that features original songs and clever new lyrics to standards, tongue-in-cheek humor and audaciously delicious verve as Cantor Patti Linsky shares her story of how she went through a near-death experience and came out on the other side transformed. Altar EGO inspires as Linsky traces her physical, emotional, mental and spiritual transformation through her 21-year poignant journey that included a car accident in 1996 that began a painkiller road, followed by an addiction/ breakdown in rehab 2007, and later abdominal surgery in 2009 which almost took her life. Linsky shares her remarkable story through Altar EGO so that others may begin to walk a path to their own authenticity, devoid of shame and humiliation.
