BOCA RATON, FL (October 9, 2014) – Broken Sound Club, a Platinum Club of America, will have the honor to once again host American heroes at the United States Marine Corps 239th Birthday Ball on Friday, November 14, 2014, the fourth year Broken Sound Club has donated its facilities to hold the prestigious observance of a significant day held dear to Marines throughout the world. The Lance Corporal Justin J. Wilson Detachment 1045, Marine Corps League and Navy F.M.F. Corpsmen of 4th ANGLICO (Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company) of Palm Beach have co-presented the local annual tribute celebration since its inception.

More than 600 Marines, clad in their dress blue uniforms and joined by their partners and invited guests will gather in Broken Sound’s largest ballroom for a night of esprit de corps and celebration, as they enjoy the traditional ceremony, dinner and dancing in celebration of the legacy of warriors who have served our nation.

Community Invited To Support This Commemorative Event

To make this the most memorable ball yet, the LCPL Corporal Justin J. Wilson Detachment 1045, Marine Corps League, and Broken Sound Club invite the community-at-large, both individuals and organizations, to assist in underwriting or donating various Birthday Ball necessities, including food items such as chicken breast, beef skirt steak, assorted rolls, and cake ingredients (eggs, sugar, cream and flour) as well as table linens, napkins, centerpieces, and other room decor. Past donors have included U.S. Foods, CBI, Over the Top, Xquisite Events, Sysco, Gourmet Foods International, etc.

The Marine Corps is traditionally known to “do more with less” – as the smallest department in the Armed Forces with the smallest budget, Marines simply accomplish the mission with the least amount of assistance and the oldest weaponry and equipment. In the case of the Birthday Ball Celebration, the same mindset rings true, as the local community is invited to support and assist with putting on an event rich in history and tradition.

“There is a monetary limit if the donation is made to the Marine Corps or our unit, but if the donation is made to the Broken Sound Club ‘on behalf’ of the Birthday Ball Committee, then the sky is the limit with donated funds going directly toward offsetting the cost of the event,” reported Marine Cary Haerlin, Birthday Ball Committee Chair, Det. 1045, Marine Corps League. MCL is a non-profit veterans organization per IRS Code 501(c) (3) that was chartered and incorporated by an Act of Congress on August 4, 1937, to perpetuate the traditions and spirit of all Marines who proudly wear or have worn the eagle, globe and anchor of the Corps.

First Sergeant Auburne Edwards, USMC I&I, 4th ANGLICO who is coordinating the Birthday Ball, noted that this particular reserve company, consisting of more than 300 men and women, have all served in Iraq and Afghanistan with many being recipients of both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He added that “Fortunately, due to their level of training and leadership, they have lost very few Marines in combat.”

“Marines throughout the world will be celebrating this important event and Broken Sound Club

is once again proud and privileged to be an integral part of honoring those ‘Citizen’ Marines who, not only serve their country when called but must leave their regular jobs and put their lives on hold in order to do so,” said Ed Cichielo, Clubhouse Manager at Broken Sound Club.

John Crean, CCE, CHA, and General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of Broken Sound Club added that “This is an opportunity for our Club and the community to give back to our local Marines who have served us with honor and dedication. This is the fourth year that Broken Sound Club will host the Marine Corps Ball, and it is a proud moment for our members and staff to be a part of something so special and meaningful to those who sacrifice for our safety and freedom.”
